Los Angeles is constructing a $1 billion Advanced Water Purification Facility (opening late 2027) that will purify wastewater and store it underground to create a drought-proof supply expected to serve nearly 500,000 people, part of the city's strategy to reduce dependence on imported water from 90% currently to 30% by 2040.
