The Mask Project offers jobs to unemployed and masks to Arizona's hardest-hit communities

Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) brings together college students from different faiths so that they develop respect and appreciation for each other and different traditions. IFYC also cultivates interfaith leaders and organizes campus-based campaigns called Better Together. Some students have received push back from their faith communities, but students and faculty have reported the campaigns for interfaith engagement leads to positive outcomes of increasing tolerance on campuses. The organization has trained students who have run campaigns on 106 campuses.

Now that a coalition of Milwaukee preachers, police and prosecutors has witnessed firsthand the success of a crime-fighting partnership in Boston, the local coalition is clearing its first obstacle -- putting its ideas into action at home.

In New York, hate crimes against Muslims have reached levels not seen since 2001. In response to deep racial divides nationally, the importance of having effective interfaith leaders is more relevant than ever.

In the United States, a multi-denominational movement combines faith and farming. “Gardens are magical places,” says Venice Williams, executive director of Alice’s Garden in Milwaukee, one of three faith-based farms profiled in this story. “This garden and most gardens slow you down, connect you to other people, and help you to put things into perspective and to celebrate everything that the creator has provided for us--however you identify with that creator.”

Walking with immigrants to their court hearings and ICE check-ins can help them feel supported and protect their safety and rights. The New Sanctuary Coalition has run an accompaniment program since 2007. Volunteers do not interfere with proceedings, but by their presence, they demonstrate community support of immigrants and play witness to interactions between immigrants and government officials.

Churches across the U.S. own a staggering amount of land that often goes unused and untended. FaithLands is an intersectional group of church leaders who are seeking to encourage churches to parcel off some of this land to local farmers who will implement sustainable agricultural practices on the unused land. This solution stimulates the local economies, feeds local people, allows small scale farmers to earn a living, and benefits the churches by turning unused land into profitable land.

Humane Borders trying to take death out of the immigration equation by providing water stations on private land along the U.S. border. The faith-based organization is also collaborating with Border Patrol agents to help spread word of the dangers of crossing the border without documents.

The Field Minister Program by the College at Southeastern Baptist Seminary offers inmates inside Nash Correctional the opportunity to study ministry and ultimately be used as a tool to reduce recidivism. Inmates with long terms lead the cultural change within the prisons by helping departing inmates find jobs, mentors and communities, running their own religious services, and becoming juvenile mentors, GED tutors, hospice care workers, chaplain support, and more. Studies done on similar programs show that Bible college reduces participant misconduct by 65-80%, and many inmates share stories of success.

Ending discrimination in football requires directly addressing some of the negative aspects of fan behavior. In Israel, the owner of the Beitar Jerusalem football club has threatened to take legal action against the La Familiar fan club, claiming damages to Beitar’s brand. In addition to the threat of lawsuits, the team promotes a youth club, known as the Team of Equals, which encourages connections between young Jewish and Muslim football fans.
