Turning the Tide on Vaccine Hesitancy in Kano: A Story of Trust and Triumph

Since 2012, UNICEF has implemented a comprehensive, community-driven immunization strategy in Kano State, Nigeria, to combat vaccine hesitancy. The approach includes training nearly 20,000 Volunteer Community Mobilizers, who are trusted local residents who engage neighbors at markets and ceremonies to address concerns and debunk myths. The multi-faceted strategy has achieved measurable results, including increased vaccine coverage in Kano that jumped from 35% to 70%.
